I think it causes people to give up trying to help if no matter how hard they try, they can never get it right. Think on a personal level. How long would your motivation to help a friend last if no matter how hard you tried to do what he said he needed, it was never good enough?

We can blame people for giving up trying to help & say they should have persisted no matter how much they were told they were the problem no matter what they did and ideally they would. But psychology exists & consistent rejection of anti-racist action will stop many taking any.
