These kind of punitive consequences are clearly wrong because they could apply to any expressed idea. This doesn't mean we can't judge people by what they say.

Well, no. Freedom of association means that you can choose to associate with companies who value freedom of expression or not and they can whether to support it or not.

Not to mention it's literally what every authoritarian regime has believed / practiced about political dissent. It disturbs me greatly 'freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences' has become a social norm.
