Seriously, never be afraid to block someone. Every bit of knowledge, interesting argument, alternative viewpoint held by someone with a shitty attitude will be held by someone without.
Don't know what the last bit means but I'll live with the consequences of blocking anyone who can't have a reasoned & civil conversation/disagreement. I co-wrote this about it.https://areomagazine.com/2018/04/07/freedom-of-speech-and-the-fallacy-of-demanding-to-be-heard/ …

I'll give it a read after work. That being said what I'm referring is this: https://www.google.es/amp/s/www.deccanchronicle.com/amp/world/america/091116/us-elections-shock-tears-in-clinton-camp-as-trump-surges-ahead.html?source=images … my impression is that people will take your advice as an excuse to not listen and isolate themselves. These people tears are due to that.

No-one can take any of my words as advice not to listen and isolate themselves. I argue the opposite frequently &, in fact, my own followers are widely diverse. Honest people can tell the difference between people disagreeing with them & people being dishonest or abusive jerks.
-
I also talked about this here: https://conatusnews.com/twitter-productive-conversation/ … It's easy to both have widely ideologically diverse Twitter conversations AND refuse to engage with abusive or dishonest people by simply understanding the difference between disagreeing & being a timewasting arsehole.pic.twitter.com/9olw5l0aA8

Honestly, if I set up an echo chamber in which what is echoed is not ideas but civility and reasonableness in the presence of different ideas, I will be quite happy with that.
-
I wrote here about the value of arguing with ideological extremists (although I no longer think the concept of the 'centre' is ideal) and I still believe in that. However, I am no longer engaging with random dishonest, snarky or abusive tweeters.https://areomagazine.com/2016/12/14/the-value-of-arguing-with-extremists-building-a-moderate-center/ …

There's just too many of them, they don't deserve my time or attention & they just get in the way of productive conversation. I think Twitter would be a much better place if we all prioritised our attention to those at least trying to be civil, reasonable & honest.
-
Or to put it another way, a way that I was told about five minutes after getting on the internet over a decade ago, DON'T FEED THE TROLLS....

I see, your position seems genuinelly honest. I'll still disagree about the actual rate at which your message will be correctly interpreted, There are examples on this same conversation about people (at least, as I perceive them) readily misinterpreting your initial tweet.
