Do you feel confident enough in being able to differentiate alternative viewpoints from shitty attitudes?

It's not always what you say, but how you say it.
-
Yeah, sorry, but I've seen too many times people blocking over opinions to believe it's healthy to encourage people to not speak to each other. It's really easy to say "I'm open minded, it's just that he was mean".
-
I agree with your sentiments, though I think Helen's point here was blocking because of attitude should be possible and still maintain heterodoxy. Hopefully, other people with a healthier attitude are around to air the same or similar opinions without the vitriol.
-
Precisely. Don't waste time trying to have a productive convo with rude or dishonest people when you could be talking about the same things with reasonable & sincere people. This is something people have been telling me for years & I've been bad at it. Got to do it.
-
We will have to profoundly disagree then. My prediction is that at some point you will ask yourself "how could X have happened?" And your surprise should not be forgivable, nor distress passed injustice.
-
Don't know what the last bit means but I'll live with the consequences of blocking anyone who can't have a reasoned & civil conversation/disagreement. I co-wrote this about it.https://areomagazine.com/2018/04/07/freedom-of-speech-and-the-fallacy-of-demanding-to-be-heard/ …

I'll give it a read after work. That being said what I'm referring is this: https://www.google.es/amp/s/www.deccanchronicle.com/amp/world/america/091116/us-elections-shock-tears-in-clinton-camp-as-trump-surges-ahead.html?source=images … my impression is that people will take your advice as an excuse to not listen and isolate themselves. These people tears are due to that.

This theorem may violate some law of thermodynamics, but at the Twitter level I’m OK with it.

Not my way in education. We should just have philosophies we disagree with. Education people shouldn't harbour 'shitty attitudes'. That would be a worry, if they are working with children.

i always feel hesitant to block someone because i always have the fear in the back of my mind that i may be unfairly or prematurely judging someone on the basis of a bad opinion(s). i don't know if that is a flaw on my part.

Aren’t they going to find that illegal soon? Or is this one of those behaviors which is ok for everyone but Trump?

True, but I'll try to check my motives before writing the target off as shitty or bereft of substance. Once I'm satisfied it's not just about my ego - then block ahoy, no regrets.

A good block is a wonderful thing... But far too many people block themselves into filter bubbles by never addressing opinions they don't like. I keep seeing kids who think "genitals" are the only difference between biological males & females. That's quite terrifying.
