Sometimes, I really wish I could resort to feminist tactics and accuse men condescending to me of mansplaining and talking over my lived experience.

Helen, talk to economists like @erinhengel and @economeager.

I think Acharya, Blackwell and Sen 2016 is a very good paper on the pitfalls of attempting to control for potential mediator variables (eg here occupational choices which are influenced by gender) http://www.mattblackwell.org/files/papers/direct-effects.pdf …

It seems there is very little point in having wage gap statistics if nothing further than gender can be considered. No political point anyway. Nothing to tell us whether we should be concerned about this or not.

There is a lot "further" to be done here! But it is not best done by naively controlling for mediators. And that paper -- which I assume you will read given your great interest in this topic -- outlines at least 1 better method than naively controlling for intermediate variables!

Can anything further be done with the statistics tho, is what I am asking. Certainly a lot can be done to discover whether discrimination is prevalent and how much role gender differences play.

Yep it can be done but it is much harder than you'd think and might not work, which is what that whole paper is about!

Lots of exclamation marks! Sorry to have bothered you! I will go now!

You seem a little, well, upset. Maybe avoid discussing certain topics if you're sensitive enough to be offended by exclamation points?
