On a weekly basis I have to point out to people that, based on the data I have, I can tell you what happened. I cannot tell you why; there is insufficient data for a meaningful answer to that question. Deaf. Ears. Every. Time. The argument you just had feels extremely similar.

We have people coming forward to tell you what happened, and then using their ideology to decide the why - *especially* if they lack the data to back it up.

Very late to this - but this applies to almost any argument based on expertise (including, and in particular, 'lived experience' arguments). You can accept the experience exists without agreeing on the causes, or the solutions, but so often that becomes 'denying lived experience'
