And so it can be said that if we teach reading in a way that benefits ALL learners, then they can “all get in.”

Dyslexia families: it’s time to . To tell the before & after, the hopeless & the hopeful, the warning signs, the solutions, & the path to prevention. What is YOUR story? Tell —maybe they’ll hear you & understand

Leveled Reading books do not build content knowledge nor do they help children with alphabetic code knowledge. Wise administrators would rethink their use.

Why 40 years after I was diagnosed with Dyslexia in 2nd grade not much has changed in practice in our schools. Normally when you know better - you do better. But if your leaders take this stance and refuse to look at the overwhelming data kids loose.

This is a must read for advocates. For years, Richard Allington has cast aspersions on families & denied that dyslexia exists. tells her story @tnreads19

Districts are baffled @ the origins of rejection to the word dyslexia. When a former ILA President & Ed. Professor can openly deny dyslexia in a literacy conference, it makes you wonder how many more Ed professors deny or belittle dyslexia.

It's amazing to me that when a state with a large low-income population shows academic gains, some people try to explain them away. It's a threat to the status quo if we show that poverty isn't destiny for our young scholars.

In addition to hate speech, add discrimination. ’s position paper on & reading specifically says not to or any label with specific solutions. This is contrary to the guidance.

Exactly. Sifting through the “position statements” issued last week, , , show a troubling discrimination. Does the misinformation begin in an undergrad or graduate degree & then solidify through trade association propaganda?

Many “reading” educators dismiss because she is from outside of the academy; what strikes me as noteworthy is her grasp of, facility with, and ability to communicate the very content that they have failed to learn and share with future teachers.

Phonics is only 1 element, part of bigger issue of relating print, spoken lang, world knowledge. We are forced to focus on it bec extreme aversion led to bonkers alternatives like guessing, skipping. Should be: get in, get out, move on.

Once and for all... “A child who misreads horse as pony does not need to check the letters or decide if it looks right. That child needs to stop guessing & learn to decode words.” The clarity of is more helpful to teachers than the complexity of Calkins and F&P
