/11 A significant turnout of students, lecturers, activists and journalists and officials at the event show that voices, stories, and concerns of the victims have secured a good space in public discourse in AFG.pic.twitter.com/A5ZkDozfBC
/11 The first volume of Tales and Narratives of Victims of War contains a significant number of the victims’ stories, their digitized photographs, handwritten letters and personal items; reminiscent of certain aspects of their memories and lives.
/11 These stories have been recorded and collected, often through several rounds of interviews with survivors of victims over the course of the past one decade. The conduct of these interviews has never been easy.
/11 Each one has involved significant outpouring of emotions, tears and cries both on the part of interviewees and interviewers. It has been an extremely painstaking and draining initiative at all levels yet necessary and important.
/11 The book series pursue a number of key objectives: First, record tales and stories of the victims and human rights violations in conflict the way they have happened from the perspectives of victims and victims’ survivors.
/11 Second, record and demonstrate the depth and scale of the pains and suffering the survivors have experienced and the strategies they have used to cope and live through extremely difficult situations.
/11 Third, challenge the systemic, institutional and discursive forgetfulness and oblivion of human lives lost and destroyed with full impunity during the conduct of war and conflict in the country.
/11 Fourth, contribute to the process of documentation of war crimes and crimes against humanity and lay foundations for realization of justice and accountability.
/11 Fifth, challenging the very logic and vicious cycles of violence through collection and public demonstration of personal memorial items, objects and belongings of thousands of victims and encouraging public debate and discourse as a strategy for durable peacebuilding.
