News travels as fast as lightning. Another #StrikeCarrier day for us, just that we now have the largest #5thGen Air Group, at sea, in the world. With the pilots now inducted it will be busy times ahead as we head into #Groupex and #JW202. ⚡️🇬🇧Lightning has Struck🇺🇸⚡️pic.twitter.com/eY5irGpLok

Why doesn’t the F-35 use the entire length of the deck for its takeoff run to gain more horizontal speed (and presumably get airborne with a heavier ordnance/fuel load)?

450ft of take off length is all that is needed as the ski jump adds another hundred or more ft of effective take off distance. The USMC use almost the full length of their (shorter) Wasp and America class ships (about 600ft of take off length) to get the same effect.

I see 12 F35s, any more below decks? When will full 36-aircraft airgroup be trialled?

14/15 aboard at the moment (difference sources say different things). 36 jets may never happen, 12-24 will be the norm unless there is a need for more.
