37 days later HMS HERMES returned to the city & berth we today, call home.

Anyone remember when USS Iwo Jima came to Liverpool it would have been early 80’s I drove along dock road the night it came the radio in my car go funny. We were lucky enough to go aboard next day and found out Iwo Jima picked up the astronauts from Apollo 11 I think but not sure

Seen the Iowa in Pompey in 86,absolutley breathtaking. She fired her guns on exercise off Cape Wrath,that would of been something to see and hear!!

I remember seeing the Hermes leave the dockyard from old Portsmouth in 82 and the great reception they all received returning home victoriously as a teenager,today we remember all those that sadly did not return

I was stationed at the old US Navy sub base in Holy Loch Scotland (closed in the 90's if memory serves), during the entire Falkland Islands campaign. Bravo Zulu to the Royal Navy. The US Military was poised to help you folks out if you had needed it
