Possibly the most photographed man on our deck - Flight Deck Officer (FDO), Lt Cdr Richie Turrell busts more moves launching a @USMC F-35. If you want to ask Richie a deck-related question, please post below. He will answer as many as he can over the coming few days #WESTLANT19pic.twitter.com/oztvKVC7EC

Richie, what do the different colours of the deck crews uniforms symbolise? Do they have specialist jobs like on US carriers? Eg Green shirts do fuel?

We have a very similar colour coding system to the @USNavy doing the same roles.

Both a very attractive option! However, we decided on Thermal Metallic Spray (TMS) - much better at absorbing the heat!

Is there an updated version of the cradle for use with the F-35 in case of failed undercarriage, similar to the one used for the Harrier or does the forward fan prevent such a device being used?

Richie, why are RN FDOs no longer using flags?

It's purely so we have uniformity across the UK and US carrier community. And it's in accordance with Naval regulations.

Lt Cdr seems to be quite a high rank to be directly involved in launch / recovery operations 🤔
