Question. Is the air brake engaged in that video. If so, why? Just curious about the part of the plane behind the cockpit standing vertical.

The vertical part is the lift fan cover, it has to be open in take off to allow airflow through the fan to create lift

The F35B can takeoff conventionally, which I imagine they would do when ashore to reduce lift fan wear and tear. Harrier didn't have the range, payload and stealth.
