        Can I ask why the lightenings weren’t embarked while still relatively close to the uk - or even in uk waters ?

        It was always the plan to leave them behind so 617 & 207 squadrons could continue training pilots and engineers in the UK. A number of them will then ferry to the states as planned for the second round of trails and will also be joined by USMC jets.
