The last day of our 2018 countdown. This phenomenon deserves more than one picture though so we will post one an hour, up until the bells. Starting the countdown at 1️⃣2️⃣ On 01 Jul 16, two F35’s flew over an unfinished flight deck in Rosyth...pic.twitter.com/kYWuPTgowX

1️⃣1️⃣ #NewYearsEve 806 days later we again heard the roar of @thef35 overhead, only this time they were not here for a flypast..... BF-04 & BF-05 were here to conduct deck trials and #bigdeckfastjets were to return to the @royalnavypic.twitter.com/DU9Sbt54gF

🔟 #NewYearsEve “No words can explain how it felt to turn the corner at 500mph and see HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH awaiting the arrival of her first F35 jet, I feel incredibly privileged”. Cdr Nathan Gray RN #F35ondeckpic.twitter.com/qjB4VYuVVa

9️⃣ #NewYearsEve Under one hour later, BF-05 was airborne again; the take off conducted by the same pilot as had taken the last Sea Harrier of a 🇬🇧 carrier. It set the precedence of completing trials successfully and ahead of schedule.pic.twitter.com/Z77zepkAUX

8️⃣ #NewYearsEve It wasn’t long before we started to wake up the silent night sky as we moved on to night flying. It made for some spectacular images, more of which are available at: https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/news-and-latest-activity/public-relations/royal-navy-imagery …pic.twitter.com/IR6xJjeAl9

7️⃣ #NewYearEve 14 Oct 18 brought a worldwide first. Pete ‘Wizzer’ Wilson from @BAESystemsAir performed the first Shipborne Rolling Vertical Landing. @thef35 decelerated from 40 knots to zero in 175 yards using its powerful disk brakes. Eco mode selected ♻️pic.twitter.com/CKqohyDBAR

6️⃣ #NewYearsEve2018 Yep, you’re still fine! 🍻 With 4.5-acres and the world’s most advanced fighter jet we can expand the envelope. Approaching from the bow allows greater options in emergency landing situations. Great opportunity for a bridge ‘buzz’ as well 😉pic.twitter.com/A5cUt1jJhW

5️⃣ #NewYearsEve We then set our air weapons party to work building inert GBU-12 Paveway II laser guided bombs to test takeoffs and landings with the extra weight. With a tick in the box we progressed to ranging, dropping 54 500lb inert bombs.pic.twitter.com/V05rvznrXS

4️⃣ #NewYearsEve We continued to test and expand the envelope in some pretty challenging conditions, it was hurricane season after all! You can’t stop war for bad weather though and no matter what the Atlantic threw at us, we kept flying safely and successfully.pic.twitter.com/SbbhAfQtvc

F35 throws up vapour from the deck as it accelerates to the ramp.

3️⃣ #NYE2018 A stealthy shot of BF-05 about to be raised from hanger to flight deck level (4 decks worth) on our aft lift. Gone in 60 seconds is an appropriate title as each lift can raise/lower 2 F35s in under 1 minute.pic.twitter.com/nkg7SPrOjj

2️⃣ #NYE2018 Double Vision as BF-04 & BF-05 land simultaneously towards the end of deck trials. Credit to our air traffic controllers and aircraft handlers who handled 404 movements and 75 hours of airspace management; and that was only for the fixed wing element. #FlyNavypic.twitter.com/od61gCpEy3
