Question... I assumed that because the QE has a ramp that the F35B would just do a 'normal' takeoff without opening all the 'hatches'. Why with the ramp does the F35B need to direct some of the thrust downwards??

Because that picture is one of them landing? Or when taking off? Because it still needs the downward thrust, just not as much
