A reminder that only one of the 18 district councils (that for the Islands) remained controlled by the pro-Beijing camp after the Nov 24, 2019 elections: because while the pro-democrats won 7 of its 10 elected seats, the council's 8 ex-officio seats were held by pro-Beijingers.

🔸At the last election in 2019, all but 27 of the 479 district council seats were directly elected, with the other ex-officio members returned via chairmanship of rural committees. 🔸Some 300 seats are currently vacant due to resignations and disqualifications.

This is getting ridiculous. Organizers of the @delphi_forum have yet again changed the title of fmr Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou. This time, he’s called “Former Leader of Taipei”. Ma is scheduled to speak on the 28th. @MOFA_Taiwan has asked him to reconsider his appearance.
