Read a case study on this in one of classes. K-Pop took over J-Pop, they train these people from early ages, 12, to be stars. Work them for 16-18 hours a day, singing, dancing and acting. Then they get to “try out” for a debut. If their debut doesn’t work out they’re dropped.

They don’t even get to chose their own groups, they’re paired w others at the record labels discretion. Really insane business model, but is really successful in monetary terms. Pretty much slave labor if you want to be honest.
