There a very select few personality types, like Stephen King for example, who literally HAS to write every day and gets ‘gassed’ on the process - but yes, for the very vast majority it’s a tortuous, piecemeal business. Only the strongest of will see a project through to the end.
Writing is a painful process. It is a task which does not feed you dopemine. Your brain registers writing as work (pain) This is why very few will ever write a novel or any tangleble piece. They simply don't have the strength to follow through with it.
