Bitcoin is what it's community decide it is, if you don't run a node you don't get a say. Was brought in as p2p cash, then the consenus shifted some what to payments and now a heavier focus on "sound money" with payments a work in progress. Different things to different people

We've hashed these arguments out over and over again on forums, we always reach the same conclusion, at this point it doesn't matter who created it, at the end of the day it is being adapted to suit a purpose that will benefit its participants. Totally optional participation.

It's a permanent work in progress, if it goes in a direction that starts to punish rather than benefit its users I won't run that software and will stick with the "good" version.
