You don't earn respect, this is another lie. Respect is taken. Nobody respects somebody trying to earn it. You must force them to. Even if it's through base level fear. Start getting aggressive and putting people in fear. Watch the respect levels RISE. You cannot deny this.

I would mix in some kind of loyalty and admiration for someone's achievements, knowledge or character. I understand what you mean by your tweet, because fear from the outside could look like respect e.g. students behave in class or ppl do favours.
