The reason it is shown in movies and TV/Netflix shows, is to program the public to accept it more. Example, You see mad shit in a movie, but your watching the movie in the comfort of your own home with your loved ones, so your mind stores those memories together -
Then, when the horrible stuff actually happens in the real world, you don't see it as a threat, it's like an old friend coming to pay you a visit, it's easier to accept.
