Whew, cathartic as it was to write, I feel like I’ve done some harm to the psyches of some of the young academic scientists out there with yesterday’s thread. My intent was to be much faster in writing something more optimistic to follow it up./1

For the young people, don’t go it alone. Get old people like me to help you out. Get them invested in your success. It’s very likely you’ll spark some exciting collaborations, which will lead to some Co-I and MPI applications./12

These are stressful times, no doubt. Take that stress and build a team with it. It’s more fun. You’ll have someone to support you when you fail and have a beer with you when you succeed. /14
