No way this is a real opinion. This alone makes me hold even more bitterness towards Esports. This is how to make a game competitively stagnant as well as a close-minded circlejerk.

Oh boy is it ever a real opinion.

I do wonder about the different skill sets that get prioritized when you have ample prep time for one or two opponents vs. Brackets of Death, and why the former often gets highlighted in many big esports.
-
Even more than just prepping for playing against a few opponents, another big difference in an FGC tournament is the sheer volume of which you have to compete. FGC competitiors that get far in a bracket have to play dozens of different people to get there.

Being knocked out by unknown talent is an inextricable risk of an Open tournament. The tournament format he wants already exists too, they’re called invitationals (ostensibly invites are only sent to top/recognized players).
-
What, you think I'm some baboon that doesn't know what an invitational is? We do those in the FGC too. My problem is switching to that format primarily. Also, being knocked out by unknown talent is not a bad thing. That's why I take issue with the word fluke.

Monte's background is just entirely set in esports where people have to fight for their spot in a league. The grassroots nature of the fgc is something he's just kinda blind to, or doesn't see as sustainable. I disagree with him, but I don't think he's intentionally being harmful
-
I agree it's just a misunderstanding, nothing malicious

lol, they're talking like seeing an underdog or unproven triumph against a favored player or team is not literally the only thing that has ever driven sports of any sort forward

What?
