This BBC study echoes what I found a few years ago: - poverty lower in Scotland for last 15 years - change is for working age adults + children - reason is more social housing but also lower costs within social housing

The number of workers in poverty in the UK has risen for the third year, according to a new report. While we need to take action to promote good jobs, the research also underlines the need for a strong and protective social security system.

Not April Fools or the Daily Mash. This man is seriously proposing that people sleep in bins. In the UK. In 2020. In fact he's proud of this 'invention'. So this is where we are now. Our wonderful British values & world-leading thinkers. Sticking wheelie bins together.

What's striking to me about this article is the role of 'vulture investors' after the crash & their power as distant landlords. Echoes lots of hidden housing issues in the UK (albeit without the 50% rent rises in a short time period)

The UK’s national debt has now gone past £2 trillion (£2.17 trillion). The national debt has more than doubled since the Tories came into power in 2010. In 2007, the national debt was 37% of GDP and by 2019 it has rapidly risen to 84% of GDP.

So a magpie flew & sat on the branch below (obviously a bit blind) & the sparrowhawk attacked it. But the magpie fought back! Hard! The sparrowhawk flew off defeated as other magpies arrived! Much more interesting than the article I’m working on

Anyone any ideas what this bird is? It’s sat outside my window watching me work and is not the usual blue tit or magpie.

I'm sure this is click bait for twitter hits, but even so. "Am I bothered?" is this a useful framing? How does this response differ across Europe? This stat tells us nothing really. If there was ever an advert for the need for more qualitative research, it's Brexit!

How can universities make any stand against the HO for the mistreatment of "the brightest & best" researchers whilst at the same time uni workers are going on strike (again) due to Universities' precarious employment, overwork, & weakened pensions.
