"But it's not FOR them! It's for children nowadays!" This is the main argument I hear being made for these remakes, but you can't make that argument when you're literally remaking something and banking off of peoples' nostalgia.

Then there's also the idea that we should just accept a show looking like shit because it's for kids. The original show was for kids, too, and it didn't look like shit, so why should we be okay with the new one being that way?

If they want to market to the next generation or change up the show to appeal to different people or tastes (think: edgy gritty reboot), they can do that. It's the fact that they are trying to market to both, when the show doesn't appeal to both, that is insulting.

I think to be intellectually consistent with a lot of my own ideals around things like copyright and the exchange of ideas, this has to be okay. The issue is just the *insult* which lies in dishonest marketing practices.

Let someone come along in 15 years and make animated Harry Potter movies where they draw Harry looking like a short, lumpy troll and see how quickly people like that start "sound like boomers."
