When my Czech grandmother learned I love movies, Forman was obviously the first name she wanted me to know. His national hero status went beyond cinephilia.

Also under-heralded, and worth a look: the better-than-its-rep VALMONT. Unlucky to be released so shortly after DANGEROUS LIAISONS, but in many ways the suppler, airier film.
