What's good about Clueless is entirely tied to its era, its fashion, its playful dialogue with a youth culture that has now entirely shifted in tone. You may as well remake the Macarena.

Remaking teen movies in general is a bad idea. Teenagers deserve cultural touchstones that are their own, not hand-me-downs that trade off their parents' nostalgia.

i can't imagine any recast that would be successful. imagine anyone else playing cher, tai, travis, dionne, josh - i'd just compare them to the original performances and i don't think anyone would come out favourably.

I don't see the casting as a problem, really: there are plenty of talented young actors who would be perfectly game. But the only way to make this material relevant is to reconceive those characters entirely.
