Church attendance is a poor indicator of a community’s faithfulness to following Jesus Christ. A much better barometer would be how the well the community ensures social, racial, and economic justice.

The church’s primary vocation is worship in Word and Sacrament. Once it stops being that, it becomes a social service agency. That’s not church. Worship was at the center of Jesus’ life and it needs to be at the center of ours
Reducing the church’s social justice witness to “a social service agency” is deeply offensive to all the Christians who have put their lives on the line for the mission of the church in the world.
