I cleared the browser cache etc. It's a Chromebook, so there is no updating. I will have to check if there is an update for the Chrome on my phone

Chromebooks update just like every other device. Sounds like an anomaly. Loads fine on my Pixel 3 and my Chromebook. Strange sounding issue indeed...

I was able to access with my Samsung DeX, again via the Samsung browser, so I can at least do the courses on a desktop sized screen. ~Although as I typed that I remembered I can install Android Apps on the Chromebook, so just installed Firefox & that's working with the Academy
