I'd read about Incels in the news, following the Toronto attack, but this was the first time I'd actually paid much attention. I thought I'd find a few sporadic sick comments in between lots of comments from lonely men that wanted relationship advice. Wrong.

The following screenshots did not require digging. I literally went to the discussion board and looked at the first two or three pages.

I think this screenshot best sums up the general attitude I foundpic.twitter.com/4zmLg9JCGR

Misogyny is the theme of pretty much every single thread. To give you a feel for the sort of things blamed on women (summary: everything):pic.twitter.com/4pWkUYUN5i

(Interestingly, he tagged on a note at the end re: 80% of divorces being filed for by women - presumably because he thinks that's another bad thing women do. I imagine he hasn't thought about WHY women file for divorce).

Further evidence of misogyny with the title 'you are not entitled to equal pay':pic.twitter.com/ta4brIMySQ

There is a common feeling of entitlement (interestingly there are threads complaining about the use of the word 'entitlement') to the extent where they believe women not being attracted to them is against their rights) See as follows ('manlet' is a term for 'short guy'):pic.twitter.com/nQYe04ORbI

Final screenshot on this point before I move on to the topic of rape. This one speaks for itself.pic.twitter.com/pRhoEazRtS

Ok, that's enough of the general theme of women hating. You get the picture. It gets a little darker from here on out, and some of this is pretty upsetting and repulsive.

Rape is a very common theme. The general summary is that (a) women secretly enjoy rape, (b) women decide if it's rape after the event depending on how good looking the guy is, and (c) if a women is a 'slut' then it's not really rape at all.

By the way, one of the things I find most chilling about all of that (I mean fuck - it's all chilling) is the guy who talks about stoning a woman refers to her as 'it'. I wonder if the dehumanisation of her makes it easier for him to justify killing her.

So the summary of the above screenshots seems to be that women must conform to some form of demure behaviour, particularly if they date a guy. If they don't then they're asking to be raped.

I'm going to move on to violence in a bit, but before I do I want to highlight the creepy nature of some of the posts (as if misogyny and rape weren't enough). This guy, for example:pic.twitter.com/wQbkmJ27J6

This is excruciatingly creepy. The responses to him don't go much better:pic.twitter.com/EjgXNDiQ58

Also, men rate women out of ten, as a matter of course. See this:pic.twitter.com/8mIPqJNiFl

Ok, the violence then. This is hard reading given the recent Toronto attack. Here goes:pic.twitter.com/0yAKFHQMT1

My reason for posting this is that I haven't been this shocked in a long time. This is beyond repulsive. I don't know what the definition of hate speech is but this can't be far off. I doubt there's legal action that can be taken (and if there were it may only exacerbate matters)

I honestly can't get into the mindset of these people. There's a good article here that surmises that rejection in these people leads to self-hate, which then manifests itself like this: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/minority-report/201804/the-incel-involuntary-celibacy-problem?amp …

Perhaps. It doesn't explain why these people deal with rejection in this way, whereas others deal with it and move on without becoming a woman hating, rape supporting advocate of violence.

I don't know what the solution is either. I don't know any people like this. I know plenty of older men who have never had sex, and to the best of my knowledge they do not share these views.

The closest I've seen it come is a mate of mine who told me he wants 'a woman' because he needs to have children and wants a woman to look after him (he meant be a substitute for his mum). I challenged him on his attitude and choice of language, and I don't think he got it.

Maybe that's what these people look like on the outside, when in public... I don't know?
Show this thread -
Perhaps psychiatrists could start responding to the posts on the forum?

I don't know. I'm out of ideas. But it's fucking horrifying, and I'm genuinely shocked. I'm off for a cup of tea and some gardening.
