It seems like most employee agreements contain IP transfer clauses saying "if you did something on company time/equipment/office it's ours" (but in muddy legal speak) They don't really mean anything in reality but it's enough to scare an employee.

This is such shortsighted thinking, the crazy thing is if your not in software, you're almost expected to have a side gig, mainly talking HR and Ops realm but most employers want their HR/Ops teams to be doing side gigs on the side because it benefits their brand.

That's really interesting and it totally make sense. I wonder if tech companies lag behind because they still think software is valuable IP. When, in reality, the software powering 99% of companies is trivial and not inherently valuable on its own.
