    In the Royal Gallery, a statue of Richard the Lionheart stands proudly; he stands taller today, in defiance of terror, and in memoriam of all those fellow lionhearts watching over Parliament.

    And we saw one lionheart make the ultimate sacrifice to protect us. Many of us see armed and unarmed officers around the estate everyday, and are warmed by the humour, and assured by their presence. We cannot thank them enough.

    We heard them roar 'Run, Hide, Run', thinking first of others, before charging head-first into danger. We saw their full force deployed to defend Parliament, and all it represents. We saw the best of humanity in the face of the worst.

    Those of us who work in Parliament are familiar with a tunnel to the Palace, symbolically guarded by a unicorn and a lion. Yesterday, a vile, ungodly, demented wolf attacked the gates, and we were defended by true lionhearts.

    Today, I remember those who lost their lives on Westminster Bridge one year ago, and I remember PC Keith Palmer who sacrificed his life to protect those who work in Parliament. I want to share these words from a friend who worked in Parliament when the attack took place.
