4/4: Conservatives are calling on the govt to repeal elements of C-75 which require judges to release violent, repeat offenders onto the streets, and to strengthen Canada's bail laws so that those who are prohibited from possessing firearms cannot count on getting bail.

3/4: Recently, the Liberals also enacted Bill C-5 which eliminates mandatory sentences for serious gun crimes. 13 premiers have written to the PM asking for bail to be harder to obtain for those facing charges related to possession of a loaded, prohibited or restricted firearm.

2/4: This easing of bail is failing to keep Cdns safe. Crime has 🔼 32% since Libs took office. In Toronto, of 44 shooting homicides in 2022, 24 of the accused were on bail from firearms charge. In B.C. 200 frequent offenders were involved in 11,600 police confrontations in 1 yr.

3/3: This is largest tax hike on this industry in 40 yrs. They simply ask to freeze tax at today's level. A govt does not encourage embattled industries to rebound by hiking tax 6.3% on top of inflation + 30% rise in carbon taxes (no carbon rebates for small biz). #calgarycentre

2/3: Reps of Canada's beer, wine, spirits & restaurant industries predict $750M hit to food service & $125M in new taxes on producers - when hosp ind is still recovering from COVID, facing inflation on inputs & coping with labour shortages. Higher costs reduce customer purchases.

Conservatives will prioritize Plain Language Law, simplify tax system, cap govt spending, introduce pay-as-you go requiring savings to match new expenditures, get things built & bring skilled workers to Canada. You can report red tape here: scotdavidson.ca/cutredtape #calgarycentre

This is Red Tape Week - cutting it, not creating more! gave this govt worst ever grade for inaction on reducing red tape. Cdns are overwhelmed by needless regulations, endless paperwork & jargon. This costs billions & puts significant burdens on Canadian small businesses.

PMJT promised "sunny ways" but sun is shining only on Liberal friends & insiders. Middle class Cdns find they are second class Cdns. Foreign leaders come to buy our responsible energy but PMJT gives them a cold shoulder. My statement in the House today: #calgarycentre #cdnpoli

5/5: Many of the contracts are awarded to firms with solid Liberal connections like McKinsey. Are Canadians getting better service for this money? Tell me: is this a government that is competently managing our country?

4/5: Canada has a debt of over $1 Trillion which our kids will have to pay interest charges to support, and eventually pay back. The government is spending $15 Billion a year on outside contracts while also increasing the size of the public service;

2/5: Meanwhile fed govt 🔼 taxes on everyday expenses, some hidden, & carbon tax that raises cost of heating yr home and going to work. Crime is up 32%. People who can afford to travel wait months for passports & struggle to get compensation for lost luggage & cancelled flights.

2/2: He said this to me in a very angry speech...that Cdns have never had it so good...Let me tell you something, Justin. There is pain in the faces you do not see. There is suffering in the voices you do not hear. There is distress and even chaos in the places you do not go."

A statement from my colleague on the need for bail reform - one of several high priorities as the House of Commons resumes today. #calgarycentre #cdnpoli
Quote Tweet
Parliament resumes today and my top priority as Vice-Chair of the Justice Committee is to launch an investigation into Canada’s broken bail system that is failing to keep Canadians and first responders safe. The time to act is now.

1/2: Yesterday I wrote about $101.4 M in govt contracts scored by McKinsey & Company since 2015. But they aren't the only recipients from an already bloated govt. Carleton University assembled a database that shows consulting firms like Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers ...

3/3: Yet - $101.4 million to McKinsey (50x more than Harper govt spent which was $2.2 million from 2006-15). Parliamentary Committee on Govt Ops will start investigating these contracts today. McKinsey has well known links to the Liberal Party. Were these contracts all necessary?

2/3: The Parl Budget Officer estimates the public service grew from 342,000 jobs in 2015-16 (when Liberals were elected) to 391,000 in 2020-21. The govt has tabled estimates to grow it to 409,000 by 2026. The wage bill is currently $55 billion (averaging $130,000 per employee).

1/2: ICYMI before the holiday: Auditor General was highly critical of the government's COVID spending. She confirmed that excess spending contributed to the spike in the cost of living, and that at least $32 Billion in overpayments and suspicious payments must be investigated.
