Not sure if 40th ranks as a "tremendous success"...

Reminder: the TEKS say 3rd grade students are to read proficiently on a 3rd grade reading level. However, the 3rd Grade STAAR has passages on 4th, 5th & 6th grade reading levels as shown by TEA in the attached chart. STAAR is killing the love of learning in our children.pic.twitter.com/HNULktfvSf

Texas teachers can do amazing things. Texans aren't complaining about Texas education. We are complaining about legislatures who set ridiculous standards. We are complaining about the millions of dollars being spent on assessments that aren't grade level appropriate.

I think the education in Texas is good but it could be great if we get rid of STAAR It has completely changed the way teacher teach and not in a positive way
-
I couldn’t have said it any better.

Thank you for this recognition of the tremendous work of our Texas public school students and educators, especially on the day that many students start taking this year's STAAR exams.
-
That test should be banned for the crap it is and the children need to begin true learning.

Austin and Travis County are run by Democrats. Any success they have is in spite of the state, not because of it.
-
Most teachers with a half a brain are Democrats. Republicans aren’t exactly champions for education.

We dont' complain about education - we complain about you,
@DanPatrick and the#txlege constantly reducing the state's share of funds that should be going to education. We love success stories - we are Texas proud but stop shirking your responsibilities to our kids! -
@GregAbbott_TX is doing a Great Job! Because of@GovAbbott Texas still has old fashioned schools where a teacher is able to discipline a child. Other places around the Country you'll see kids bash their teachers, but in Texas you see students submitting to different colleges. -
Almost true. The next town over from me has a CRAZY turnover rate for teachers because the kids keep turning them in for WhoKnowsWhat. It’s said (first hand) the KIDS basically run the school. I’ve heard this before about some Dallas schools as well...
-
Yep. Kids have no right to run a school, because they don't know how to. Now if the Principal or Education Sec puts them to lead a movement or be a leading figure in school, that's totally different.
-
But the bad thing is that these disrespectful kids are taught to do that to their teachers by their former teachers. That's why schools should be non-compulsory and allow parents to homeschool them.
-
All of our great heroes and people of success never had a good education, like Thomas Edison.
-
I homeschool! LOL Texas is one of the few that allows parents to do so. Believe it or not, the kids get this from home. The parents are JUST AS BAD. Edison was smart, but the “Edison Bulb” in all actuality should be called the “Tesla Bulb”, for he discovered AC current.

-
Yes I know, parents are the problem 2. That's y we should go at least 1 step further, change the teachers. Kids will learn what is right at school, then they'll tell their parents. Their parents, if bad, will get angry and argue with the teacher, then we'll find out who's wrong.

Can you imagine The successes our Public Education Students in Texas would have if you fully funded Public Education! PS many of the current successful students were taught by since retired educators. Who you are trying to kill off by a terrible health plan and cutting pension !

As a parent, the only complaint I have is... Please let teachers start really teaching again...instead of constantly preparing students to take/pass the STAAR tests. I
TX & I
Governor Abbott but these tests really need to go

My daughter who is a great student was stressing about the English 1 STAAR today
She is an A & B student but gets nervous during any test, especially these ridiculous tests
