Most of the schools in my area have teachers who carry and all the students feel safer. #WestTexasDoesItRight

I doubt that's really true.
-
Our school is starting teacher carry right now because students are so scared. I like it and a lot of 18 y/o students are wishing they could carry too. It’s the culture out here.
-
That is a bigger problem than we can discuss on Twitter. Of course the kids are scare. So are most Americans. More guns is not the answer. Better leaders are needed as the ones in office now are simply not doing enough. They are doing business as usual and so far thats not working
-
That’s right! When seconds count, the police are minutes away.

-
They are, but if we address the broken gun laws we have, give police $$ to be on campus full time and the laws they need to stop a mental or unstable person from the start and have more mental health options for families in crisis that to me is a step in the right direction.

If the solution to gun violence was simply more guns in more places, then the U.S. would be the least violent place on Earth. But it isn't.
-
Amazing how many mass shootings there are at gun shows or gun shops or even the annual SHOT show as compared to gun free zones...
-
Tragic, but accidental incident. You missed the comments regarding mass shooting and gun violence and this is in no way relevant to that.
-
Sorry I mixed up my gun deaths.

-
I hear you, but the fact is anything can kill and accidents happen. The problem here is the intentional misuse of an item. Anyways, you have a good day nonetheless.

@GregAbbott_TX How can having a gun around be beneficial to a child learning, regardless of who has it. It’s just wrong. Enact tougher gun laws and nobody will need them. -
As a former teachers of 14 years, I just want to point out that teachers have undiagnosed mental health issues, use drugs/alcohol at school, have anger issues, etc. Teachers aren’t perfect
-
So. Many LEOs have issues also. HUMANS have issues. It shouldn't matter who is armed in the school as long as the children and staff are protected from someone looking to harm them

How about we offer
#GunControl 1. 21yr. minimum age. 2. Universal background checks. 3. Ban of all assault rifles. 4. 14 day waiting period. 5. No weapons for the mentally ill. For starters. -
"Mental illness" needs heavy qualification.
-
Mental illness is really the problem... And how they just run our public schools and prisons. But not in mental institutions.
-
People frequently get a diagnosis of depression (a mental illness) after losing a loved one.
-
I hear you! I'm one of them. But it didn't make me want to go kill anyone.
-
That's why it needs clarification.
Being socio/psychopathic is dangerous but even then not always. And some doctors misdiagnose. There's a tremendous amount of complexity. Expanding healthcare and reducing the number of high powered killing machines is the way to go.
-
I worked in the education system for several years and you can't believe the mental illness I saw that was just ignored. It's like no one knows what to do with the "angry" kids. Like I said. They don't hide it. And they don't need adult rifles/weapons.
-
...sigh... There are so many kids struggling who don't get better with age. A "phase" needs intervention minimally to buoy them. And adults, whose mental health has been neglected, also deserve help. It's devastating on a wide scale.
