Governor Walker just eliminated the state property tax in Wisconsin. Do you have to the courage to follow suit in Texas, Governor Abbott?https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/politics/2017/12/18/wisconsin-gov-scott-walker-touts-elimination-state-property-tax/961323001/ …

We have to be realistic though. Texas already does not have an income tax. So if we eliminated property taxes completely...how would Texas have any money? I doubt there’s enough wasteful govt spending to cut to make ends meet.
-
Texas does not have a state property tax.

I’m frustrated with the Republicans and their obsession with cutting taxes. Trump is already giving big businesses big tax cuts. States are responsible for their own infrastructure, police/fire services and education. Property taxes pay for these. Don’t cut
Period. -
I’m frustrated with democrats who don’t pay taxes and then complain mine aren’t high enough.
-
I didn’t know Democrats didn’t pay taxes. I’m a Democrat and have been paying taxes for years! I pay them because they support public services, which I enjoy. If my house burns, I’m happy firemen can show up and extinguish it.

The only way to reduce local school property taxes is to increase state funding for public education. If Gov. Abbott wants to limit rising property taxes, he needs to show us the money. Where is his school funding plan?

What happened to local self government , Governor.? You don't live in my city or my part of the state. You don't know the issues, the opportunities, and the challenges faced by every taxing entity in the Lone Star State. One size fits all is not the be all - in all solution.

How Will You Pay For The Things That Are Currently Paid For By Property Taxes? It’s a simple question. The main reason they go higher is Texas has curtailed the money it sends to localities. Property taxes fill the void.
-
Let’s not have another republican “magic tax cut” plan. Didn’t work in the 80s, and didn’t work in Kansas. If we have things we must spend money on as a state, make sure we collect enough taxes to pay for it. Decide on spending first. That’s what normal citizens do.
-
Just don't waste the money. That's what normal politicians do.

I’m more concerned about sanctuary cities and illegal aliens than property tax!

Yeah, the 400,000 new residents moving to Texas every year don’t need services. They bring their police, fire and educational staff with them....not to mention their roads.

It's good effort but frankly speaking, Governor, it's not enough.

For the past 10 consecutive years, HCAD has sought a 10% increase in my property taxes. When I mentioned that to an HCAD employee, he said I should move.
-
Now that's part of the problem. That person probably doesn't own a house.

Governor Abbot you have property owners paying for all the apt dwellers and renters in Texas if which there are more school age children attending school as renters. Why don’t they pay like property owners?
-
Ummm because the landlords that own the properties pay the property taxes. Those that rent pay the landlord that the landlord then pays towards property taxes. That's how it works.
-
Not really. You obviously don’t own property nor rent property. Rents barely cover mortgages and insurance.
-
If the rent you are charging isn't covering all of that then it is obvious are you are doing it wrong. I am a landlord actually and if the rent you are charging can't cover mortgage, insurance or taxes then you are not charging enough. That is just simple mathematics.
-
As a liberal everything is simple and paid by others. Get off my TL.
-
And bless your heart - get some help for that anger problem - they have support groups. And that basic math issue - try a public community college.
#ByeFelicia -
You’re the one with an anger problem so typical of emo libs.
