Look at this insanity caused by Austin’s reckless homeless policy. All state-imposed solutions are on the table including eliminating local sovereign immunity for damages and injuries like this caused by a city’s homeless policy. The horror stories are piling up. #txlege

.@MayorAdler FYI just behind a two car accident at 7th and 35. Homeless people darting into traffic totaled two cars, injuries, glass everywhere.

Last time I checked it’s not illegal to be poor, but your policies would say otherwise. If there are that many people that are homeless in this state because of economic scenarios and mental illness, that’s on you. Easier to just lock them up right?

The person who initially tweeted this even walked back the claim (or the misinterpretation) that homeless people caused this issue (a claim refuted by APD). There's no need to scapegoat homeless people for political point-scoring; it's a terrible look.

My tweet seemed to suggest who *caused* the wreck. That wasn't my intent. You can see a man standing in the middle of the street in my photos, and traffic was lurching to avoid him. I pulled up to an intersection that was in complete chaos, which is now all too common. 2/4

For the record, Governor. 7th and 35 has had a homeless population prior to the decriminalization of homelessness. If you want to offer a solution towards ending homelessness, we can raise the minimum wage, expand Medicaid in Texas and create an affordable way to live.
