This is what's known as regressive taxation. Wealthy pay a smaller proportion of their income; poor pay higher US tax code is already overall quite regressive, but this is bonkers.

Sales taxes are highly regressive, with poorer people paying a much larger percent of their income. And sales taxes are already high enough. Why don’t you eliminate property taxes altogether, and replace them with a progressive income tax?

Texas is already among the WORST states in the country, in terms of regressive taxation, putting a greater burden on those least able to afford it. You want to make it even worse. I'm a property owner and this is evil. A consumption tax is a regressive tax. We already have some of the highest sales taxes in the nation--higher than California's. Property taxes are insanely high because of how Republicans have mismanaged funding the education system.
