200 men defending a church against 2000 better armed men, no chance to win. Their deaths helped the creation of a free and independent State against one of the most terrific dictators of the American continent. What else should one do to be "heroic"? No safe rooms at the time

All true; but they were also fighting to preserve slavery in Texas, which Mexico had banned
-
I may say: "Who cares?" And I would be right. You know, "Nazis were wrong but Russians were commies killing millions of their own people. The West shouldn't have joined the Soviet Union."
-
Not the “West” but Churchill & Franklin D Roosevelt who was very ill at the time w/polio. Both were Socialists!
-
Oh come on, Suzie. Be thankful that US and UK did the right thing at the time despite long time (past and future) lack of love between them and the USSR.

Heroism runs in my family. I fight for gun control, legal weed and open borders. My heroic ancestor, Generalissimo Santa O'Rourke, led the fight against the rebels at the Battle of the Alamo.

It’s an actual letter, written by an actual person - Please see Ben Phillips reply above. If u don’t like Texas, pack up- and take the softie board of education folks with you - I’m a middle of the road guy tbh, but when common sense lacks.. there-in lies the problem
-
Pack up and get the hell out of TEXAS
-
I support that! Kick all of the School Board out for thinking about monkeying with the Alamo's History! I tell you this folks, don't vote 4 BETO or we'll get more of this!

Why not just teach the facts and leave judgement of heroism to the students?
-
Exactly
-
Because without examples of heroic and non heroic, everything become relative. You can’t describe without examples.
-
Everything is relative! Heroism is dependent on who you believe the “good guy” to be, particularly in battle. The easy answer is “the white guys of course!” But many people in TX are descendant from those on the other side.
-
History is written by the victors but that does not mean it is the only truth. Critical thinking is blunted by these cartoonish depictions of history.
-
Actually everything isn’t relative. There are objective good guys and bad guys. There are good cultures and demonstratively lousy ones. There are good ideologies and stupid ones. They aren’t that difficult to discern.
-
Let me guess, you believe that your culture is far superior to all others? This is is exactly the intellectual laziness I’m referring to .
-
Obviously anything you would say regarding me would be a guess. You shouldn’t base anything on your guesses.

But George P. Bush, the Texas Land Commissioner, wants The Alamo to be a multicultural Disneyland where we celebrate all cultures that contributed to San Antonio. How about not supporting the turd for re-election?
