Would love to talk to you and or your staff (maybe Kate Hendrix) about what my family's philanthropic foundation, The Calabria Foundation is doing with tele-psychiatry.

There is zero mental health help in schools and the shrinks that these parents trust are over prescribing drugs and not listening to the real issues! How about real help not drugs !!

Yes, which requires you to pay Texas teachers more money and hire license therapist for school districts.

As a retired teacher/school administrator, I agree 100%. Every school campus should be FUNDED & required 2 have multiple degreed and licensed social workers & psychologists who are readily available 2 the students of that campus on a DAILY BASIS.

Just cap the student/counselor ratio at 200/1. The counselors there are great, but spread too thin & forced to focus on academic side vs emotional

Do something to help end the stigma of having mental health issues. Teachers are not physicians and parents have a right to know the credentials/history of these telemed docs, which is something parents do NOT get in advance.

I would look in to mind altering drugs being prescribed to kids that don't need it. Need to look in to the parents who take their drugs. Yea, it's crazy. You know who you are.

Shouldn't they be getting "mental health services" in their family physicians' offices? Why should Texas taxpayers foot their bills?
-
Its about training teachers in identifying problems and it’s about telemedicine, which makes it much less expensive.
-
Sounds like a bottomless well into which taxpayer dollars can be dumped by the bucketload.
-
Family physicians are usually ill equipped to handle most mental illness. Health insurance often leaves people short on access to actual mental health practitioners. And currently mental health is the top scapegoat for people when theydon’t want to acknowledge our gun problem.
-
Thank you. Even IF families have health insurance they can afford, most cannot afford a $40 per week copay for an appointment a d that is what is usually needed at the very least.
-
So other families should be made to pay instead? No. That's not the Texan way.
-
Actually the Texan way has sadly become that we make it difficult for average middle class workers or those in rural communities to afford decent health insurance at all. There is no real competition because of laws supported by the ins lobby preventing it.
-
Dang, I'da thought regular folks would be able to muster more voters than insurance company lobbyists.
