What are you going to do to help retired teachers pay for insurance?
-

-
Maybe they should get a second job like me.
-
Retired teachers were promised affordable healthcare!
-
How much does affordable cost?
-
Their deductible went from 400 to 1500 in a year!
-
The average family's health insurance in the US per month is $833 on premium and $7,983 for yearly deductible. Wouldn't you say that teacher's health insurance costs are pretty "affordable"??

This is the one tweet from you that I will like, as an alumni (Master’s degree) of UTD. It’s well-deserved.

Please fix my insurance. I worked for Texas public schools for 30 years. Now my family deductible is 3,000. Where am I supposed to get that on my 1500 per month pension? I also pay 680 per month premium. Please I beg you. Help me. I’m sick.
-
So you just want everyone else to pay for your health insurance??
-
I worked for the state for 30 years. I was promised insurance at a reasonable price per month when I retired. It was 80 dollars a month in 2015 which on a 1500 check was doable. It is now 680 a month. How am I supposed to pay bills and eat? Answer me please.

So something that I worked for my entire life should just disappear? Texas teachers work for a tiny pension and good insurance was supposed to be part of my retirement package. It’s one of the reasons I worked in that profession in the first place.
-
I have worked second jobs my entire life. Here’s the kicker: in Texas a person collecting teacher retirement isn’t eligible to collect full social security benefits. You can only collect a small percent. Could you live on 800 a month?
-
Your retirement from 30 yrs of teaching is only $18,000/yr??
-
Yes. But it was not a gift. They took money from my paycheck each month. It’s my pension.
