Focusing on mental health issues is one of the best strategies to reduce threats of school violence. It also improves student behavior and outcomes. #txlege #mentalhealth http://m.ktre.com/ktre/pm_/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=od:JYnPjGTq …

My son is writing a research paper on this very subject! WITH answers involving a rule (I know, we don't like agency rules generally) and mental health courts.

I actually wrote a report a few semesters ago on, mental illness and criminal activity. He will have a TON of material to cite. I would suggest mentioning education, poverty, and substance abuse in his research to add potential opposing views and double back to the illness.

It's a position paper mandating a rule and how even if taxpayers assumed the cost of psych evaluations, it would save hundreds of millions, solely using Sandy Hook as a cost basis.

I'm guessing by the complexity of the paper he is a college student? I'm curious to know what major his degree is in?

Yes, college. #LiberalNightmare And his career choice is cinematography - major in broadcasting & cinema arts (Unfortunately, degree is required to start out as a cameraman these days) Still dean's list, but challenging navigation on papers.

As I said in my @dallasnews op-ed, many mental health programs are cost-effective and evidence based:https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/commentary/2018/05/31/can-improve-school-safety-identifying-kids-severe-antisocial-behavior-offering-help …

So why do you continuously cut funding for schools. How about we ban guns period until we're fully up to speed with free mental health in our schools?

Bring God back in schools along with capital punishment. Teaching kids the value of life and consequences isn't a bad thing.

Passing the medicaid expansion would be a small step in the right direction, but comprehensive mental health services are practically unavailable even to those with good insurance in our profit driven system. Public healthcare is the only real solution.Everything else is rhetoric
