    Sad to see Gratipay go :-( Full disclosure: I never made a cent from Gratipay. My projects published on GitHub must be too obscure and small to matter. FOSS community truly has lost a beacon for the spirit of the economy of gratitude. 2017 was a dark year :'-(

    Just took the site offline. support@gratipay.com will stay up for a while. Though we plan to protect against domain takeover for at least a couple years, please remove Gittip/Gratipay links and widgets from your websites. Thank you.

    Bringing the quote-thread here: the recent closing up of and might yield some lessons about this, particularly irt “wouldn’t that be a great way to boost”. Codesponsor have some good thoughts here:

    True sustainable, scalable funding for open source will never come from donations. It must be approached as a marketing win for companies. This is the only way they can (and will) scale their funding paving the path for true financial sustainability.
