  2. Here’s the TTC’s updated fare evasion estimates: At 15.9%, streetcar rate MUCH higher than buses and subways. But during audit period: fare vending machines in streetcars out of service 16% of the time, Presto readers unavailable 5% of the time. (PDF)

  3. Has anyone ever had their fare checked by one of these plain-clothes inspectors? Do they have, like, a special TTC badge? I’d be pretty weirded out if some rando just asked for my Presto card.

Unlikely to happen, but if Toronto ever does bring back the vehicle registration tax, I wouldn’t keep it at $60 a year. Set it to $151.15 — the cost of a monthly transit pass — per year, and peg it, so the cost of driving always rises with the cost of transit.

From the minutes of this week’s Budget Committee meeting: Councillor Mike Layton’s request for a report on bringing back the vehicle registration tax fails on a 3-3 tie.

Bike Share’s e-bike pilot will be fascinating to watch. 300 e-bikes to be added to the fleet. They’ll work like other bikes and use standard docks. Pedal assist with 25 km/h top speed and 70 km battery range.

2020 bike share plan also says they’ll be expanding into a bunch of places, including Toronto Island. I regularly see people lugging Bike Share bikes on the ferry, so that’d be a good change.

I wrote about this in , but this map showing Bike Share expansion planned for 2020 is verrrry interesting. They’re going to try out bike sharing in Scarborough & North York with a handful of temp stations installed for the summer. (PDF)

Let’s hope staff comes up with a way to end this ridiculous budget game. I just do not understand it. No one is standing around City Hall saying, “wow, there’s just too much accountability around here.”
