What if your opponent has opposite race picking preferences to you? I.e you both have preferences that prevent the match from happening?

I've played competitively as a racepicker for more than a decade. It has literally never happened that it was impossible for us to match up. A good 99% of players who race pick do so because they want to dodge a particular mirror matchup.

most players avoid mirrors because the mu style is so polarizing. It's very very rare for someone to veto non-mirror mu's. So a common racepick would look like TvZ TvP PvT (avoid TvT)

That said, in the event where players legitimately cannot match up, I'd suggest giving them both their 'vs random' option. It will basically never happen and players will vastly prefer playing a matchup they dislike 0.2% of the time over 33% of the time like how it is now.

Like basically if both players are dodging one mirror matchup, they are always able to find a corresponding matchup. It only happens that they can't if one player chooses to race pick two mirrors, or if they both race pick all 3 races.

Then you just give both a random race so they can think about their choices in life for the next 20 minutes or so.
