I think this sort of criticism can be seen as an attack on fathers. Full disclosure: I am the father of three, all daughters. It's the best. I think this criticism is needed, not only for daughters, but for fathers.

I think the underlying assumptions you see in this picture hurts daughters, robbing them of some of their personhood and agency. Here's a piece that's missed: I think they *also* hurt fathers. It makes transactional what should be relational.

A father's job is to help an amazing unique expression of humanity, which has never been seen before and will never be seen again, to set their trajectory and launch into an orbit the world is desperately awaiting and dearly needs. It's not vagina ownership and preservation.

Am I saying that, if you do a purity ball or you do the jokey 'cleaning the guns' thing, that you don't love your daughter, or your relationship is purely one of owner/property? No. But you're engaging in something that works against those things. It's best to consider that.

      A.R. Moxon Retweeted Sage McCalister

This reply is a revealing one, I think. In response, I'd ask: •Do my comments suggest offense more, or less, than posting such a rebuttal? •Why is criticism so often experienced as emotional whining? •Why is exposing a problem seen as the problem?https://twitter.com/SirJamesLeggs/status/988125513158770688 …

Thank you for the question. People can joke, of course. I never said otherwise. Jokes have a point of view. That point of view can be examined. That's what's happening.https://twitter.com/thispizzashit/status/988130886616076289 …

A.R. Moxon Retweeted Everybody hates Rian

Given the self-incriminating substance of the rebuttals so far, I'd say 'no.' However, I would happily exchange 'exposing' to 'describing' or 'proposing' if you'd like.https://twitter.com/_aGentlemanNerd/status/988135743204745216 …

Isn't it a bit presumptuous to say that one has exposed a problem when there's considerable disagreement as to whether it is a problem to begin with though?

The number of people replying to this thread, which is premised on the fact that I understand it is a joke, with “it’s a joke!” is really something.
