"catty" or "ribes" are usually adjectives beer nerds use when they don't want to say something smells like cat piss.

Interesting. In the wine world, Sauvignon Blanc often is described as smelling like "cat pee".

The compound in question is 3-Mercapto-3-methylbutan-1-ol. Common in sauvignon blanc.
