As a corporate guy, I’m naturally cynical about class actions. But this is a classic example of where class actions make sense—lots of small dollar claims, creates deterrent for future misconduct.

2/2 So honestly, people Like me (upper middle class++), that had our kids “just apply” cause it wasn’t very expensive (to us) were likely most impacted. And I won’t bother collecting, so who profits? Class Action Lawyers... see?

Sure, the attorneys profit. But for many applicants, getting a couple hundred dollars does matter. And the key issue you don’t address is deterrence—if colleges have to give back a few million (plus pay attorneys), they’ll think twice before perpetuating the scam.

1/2 Lots of small dollar claims many people impacted won’t ever bother to collect. I doubt lower middle Class applicants spent as much as you think. And poor applicants typically have application fees waived.
