VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Amazon Prime is trying to deceive you. The site has two It's a Wonderful Life on Prime. You want "It's a Wonderful Life (B&W)" They add the black and white to make it seem like the other is the original. It isn't. It's colorized.

Why does this matter? Because the makers of It's a Wonderful Life didn't make a color movie. Color was around in 1946, they opted not to use it. So colorizing it is like taking Mona Lisa and giving her blonde hair. The end result is a piece of garbage.

To quote one of my favorite film professors, Drew Casper: "There is a special circle of hell for those who colorize movies." So please, I implore you, watch the right version.

Or, and I’m just spitballing here, don’t watch either version.

Yeah, I mean self-sacrifice on Christmas Eve is fitting I guess. Because the only reason not to watch it would be to deprive yourself of joy.

I find the movie annoying and terribly dated. But I know others love it, so in the holiday spirit, live and let live.

I am deeply protective of it because it is the rare movie in which self-sacrifice is depicted as a good and honorable thing. I think I appreciate it is dated in that respect bc I think a modern film would make it about learning to have "me time" and "self care"
