You said nothing that warrants an apology in my eyes. I don’t think I personally could vote for Kemp, but people becoming “offended” that you would share your experience on growing up with the man should chill out. The marketplace of ideas is vital to our democracy.

I think people, and i know i was, were upset that the dean of our esteemed college seemingly supported a candidate that stands for policies that are archaic and small minded. Plus we all love the dean, so his initial tweet was disheartening
-
I think you've confused "archaic" with "beliefs that are different than mine"

Totally agree. I wish him well in his future career as a barista.

Actually your apologize is ill-timed and poorly written. Sure, don't use a UGA account, but not having a back-bone and standing by a congratulations to a FRIEND is cowardly. True friendship transcends politics. At least it should anyway.

Meant to say "apology" and not "apologize" earlier, so my tweet was clearly, poorly written as well. Nevertheless, the sentiment remains.

FWIW, I thought it was entirely appropriate. I don't think I could vote for the guy, but saying you grew up together and could stay friends regardless of politics shouldn't be all that controversial. Sorry that you caught heat for it.
-
Agree. It was a Tweet on the character of someone you grew up with not on his politics.

You owe me no apology. You expressed a simple and sincere personal POV based on you own experience. Those hysterically responding as if you endorsed everything Kemp had ever said and done are the ones who should apologize.
-
100 percent agree.

No, the tweet you're apologizing for was well-timed & well-written. What you've learned is how easy it is to question yourself when soulless, conscience-free ideologues are determined to punish you for being the decent person you are instead of the vindictive bullies they are.

Couldn’t agree more!

Really disappointed that you apologized for giving a personal opinion on a lifelong friendship. Do you teach your students to bow down to pressure of this sort? "Offended" is the new censorship tool. Seems to be working, sadly.

I’m offended by your apology. Nothing wrong with what you originally tweeted. now that you’ve backed down to the SJWs, well, that’s just too bad you felt the need to do that rather than stand up for what’s right.
-
i agree. this offends me as well. I would NEVER want to be friends to a sell out like this guy

Well we now know how you treat your friends. Friends stand with friends even when times are tough. You could have taught a very powerful lesson to your students and peers showing that political differences can be overcome with true friendship.
